KING FOR A DAY 2010

Congratulations to Chuck Portman for being crowned “King for a Day” and Princess Le Tunnell!

The 2010 King for a Day event was a great event! Fifty-six players participated in this annual event that saw some great competition and very close finishes. Kathy Toth & Mike Portman -- for an amazing 12th time in a row -- ran away with the Low Gross Flight with a great score of 72 (with 2 double bogies). Unfortunately, the crown has eluded him.  Finishing second was Gene Berban & Heidi Peter (76).

Mike Polly, who must have been carried by his princess, Patsy Ozzimo, was hangin' his head until he found out that his team had managed to win the Second Flight low gross (88) in a card off. The net winner in this flight was Bill Green & Brenda Taylor (63.8).  Finishing at a close second was Keith Natzke & Elaine Bonilla (64.8)

The Third Flight, or the “Action Flight,” is where the lowest scores were made. Gary VanSant & Sharon Sparrow had a sizzling round (60.2), but a double bogey on their final hole proved to be the deciding score, as Chuck Portman & Le Tunnell posted their amazing winning score (59) to crown Chuck as the King for a Day! However, Gary & Sharon were the gross winners (90) and Ron Edwards & Sandi Johnson won the low net (66.6).  Ray Bonilla & Glenda Natzke finished a very close second (67.2).

                               SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - 2010

Senior Flight (Gross)
Twenty of Santa Maria Country Club's senior men teed it up in the 2010 Senior Club Championship on June 26th and 27th. The first day saw some great competition!  The end of the day saw three players tied at 74 (+2): Brian Collins, Bill Ostini and Mike Portman, the 2009 Senior Club Champion.

The final day of play saw Collins slip out of the competition with a 79. But,
Chris Blair found his game on the second day to shoot the low round of the
tournament, a super 73, to win second gross. Ostini, a past Club and Senior
Club Champion, had another good day, shooting a respectable 76.  However,
Portman continued his fine play and equaled his first day score of 74 to win
by two strokes to retain his crown as the Senior Club Champion !

Senior Flight (Net)
A pair of 11 handicappers moved away from the field with some fine play. Bob Wilson sparkled with great 65 on opening day. However, it was only good enough to lead by one stroke over Mark Tisdale's 66. Day Two was just as close with Wilson besting Tisdale once again by only one stroke, 70 to 71.

Super Senior Flight (Gross)
Henry Lee was the only Super Senior to break 80 on the first day.  Lee's 78 gave him a slim two stroke lead over Dan Reeves and a three stroke advantage over George Robertson at the end of Day One. Reeves, as he is known to do, revved it up on Day Two with a dandy 76 to finish ahead of Lee win by one stroke.

Super Senior Flight (Net)
Gerry Bartell (17) was the leader on Day One with a super 67 that put him in front by two strokes. A fine 68 on Day Two gave him a total score of 135.  However, Al Portlock (20) managed…once again…two miracl
e rounds (69/63) to win the Overall Net by three strokes.  Bob Taylor played his usual fine games (70/68) to place second net at 138.
